Bloomberg.com reports today that pending home resales in the United States surged in April, the largest increase seen since 2001. The increase reflects signs of market stabilization as first time homebuyers and investors are now taking advantage of lower prices, higher inventory, and available tax incentives to purchase real estate. However, the improved economic climate has impacted mortgage interest rates. VA mortgage loan rates increased significantly last week and the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate rose to 4.91 percent after reaching a record low 4.78 percent in April.
